For new construction and renovation projects, NFPA 99 requires the purity of the positive pressure systems to be verified.

The requirement in the 1999 edition is for a maximum allowable variation for Total Hydrocarbons as Methane and halogenated Hydrocarbons utilizing the nitrogen test gas.

Medical air source systems shall also be limited to 5 PPM (parts per million) Gaseous Hydrocarbons and 2 PPM Halogenated Hydrocarbons.
